Cyprus
2nd Licensing Round
12,000 line km of new GeoStreamer® data has been acquired offshore Cyprus in 2008 and 2009, in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism. This supplements the existing 2D grid and will improve understanding of the petroleum potential of this unexplored area.
The processed GeoStreamer data gives excellent imaging uplift, in particular of the sub-salt and deeper events. The data will be the basis for the 2nd Offshore License Round in the Republic of Cyprus.
1st Licensing Round 2007
- Based on the PGS MC2D 2006
- Approximately 6770 line km of MC2D seismic data.
- Data grid of 10km times 20km
- Regional overview of the offshore Cyprus
- Eratosthenes structure, Levant Basin and Nile Delta
- Noble Energy awarded Block 12 in 2008.
GeoStreamer®
PGS’s development of the GeoStreamer is part of our continuing commitment to help customers lower exploration and development risk.
The dual-sensor streamer measures the pressure wave field using hydrophones and simultaneously the vertical component of the particle velocity using motion sensors, overcoming the limitations of hydrophone-only acquisition systems.
Its unique ability to deghost signals and to optimize data quality, not just for one target depth, but for all depths shallow to deep, promises to significantly improve our customer’s exploration success ratio, well targeting and recovery efficiency.
Besides data quality improvements, the streamer is operationally efficient because it records in one pass, with one streamer depth, in seas no other system can handle.
Solid, Silent and Sensitive
GeoStreamer is solid, silent and most importantly it is the first ever towed streamer to have dual sensors within the same streamer. It marks a step change in streamer technology. The technical benefits of this step change are seen in three key areas:
- Enhanced resolution of the final seismic image
- Better penetration revealing deeper targets
- Improved operational efficiency
Bandwidth is increased at both low and high frequencies due to removal of the receiver ghost, giving better resolution and better imaging of deep targets. The third point results from the ability to tow the GeoStreamer deeper, which is operationally attractive as weather and operational noise are minimal and the streamers are better behaved.
