Seafloor Processing

Multi-Component

PGS has developed a significant number of tools during recent years to handle data from ocean bottom cable (OBC, or "seafloor") surveys. In addition, PGS has also gained significant experience over the past decade processing multi-component (4C) OBC data world-wide. The PGS track record counts more than 30 3D-4C surveys form the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, Middle East, Africa and Far East, as well as a significant number of 2D lines. PGS has also processed several thousand square kilometers of 2C OBC data from around the world.

Technology developments have included imaging algorithms such as PSTAPSTM and PSPOMZ for time imaging, and Kirchhoff pre-stack depth migration algorithm (KDMIG) for depth imaging of converted wave data. Special tools for handling of orientation/rotation of horizontal phones, shear-wave splitting and VTI anisotropy, statics estimation, dual-sensor summation and noise attenuation, have also been developed, applied and thoroughly tested on numerous datasets. The skills and experience of the people involved in the processing of multi-component data can never be underestimated, and PGS can offer to the industry highly skilled specialists with 10 years hands-on experience of multi-component processing.
