Research & Development

PGS aims to be the leader wherever we operate. This requires a focused effort within research and development. In 2005, PGS gathered research and technology development for marine acquisition and data processing in one organization, Geoscience & Engineering.

Scope of R&D at PGS:

  • Perform R&D in areas of key importance to the marine division of PGS
  • Develop and maintain proprietary geophysical software products important to the core business of PGS
  • Provide subject matter experts to the business units for consultancy and technical marketing

The ultimate platform for all seismic pursuits

PGS believes that the foundation to any seismic experiment is a complete knowledge of all physical phenomena involved:

  • The capability must exist to model all aspects of the seismic experiment.  PGS achieves this with the NucleusTM modeling package
  • Quality control (QC) of all acquisition and processing steps must be a rigorous discipline, ideally performed in real-time, as events happen.   PGS achieves this with the onboard gAS-VIPER QC and recording system on all streamer and seafloor seismic vessels, linked in real-time by satellite telemetry to onshore installations
  • QC must be multi-disciplinary, assimilating several seismic attributes and data types, thereby providing the most information possible during any decision-making process.   PGS achieves this by using the holoSeisTM visualization system, integrated with the NucleusTM modelling package and the CubeManagerTM processing package, to seamlessly share modelling, operation, and processing data

Upon these foundations, PGS continues to improve many areas of its planning, operations, and QC,  including HD3D, streamer and seafloor acquisition, streamer and seafloor processing, and time-lapse 3D (4D).
