Seismic modeling is an area of significant research within PGS. Standard modeling methods such as reflectivity, dynamic ray-tracing and finite difference modeling are developed and continuously extended. By combining these methods with automatic processing, the data quality can be investigated with respect to acquisition parameters or processing flows. New techniques are continuously investigated and developed with respect to repeat modeling, incorporation of anisotropy or increasing the efficiency of the seismic method through the combination of different modeling methods.

Besides application in Survey Design, seismic modeling is also a fundamental tool used in feasibility studies for reservoir characterization and seismic monitoring. Seismic modeling is the key to understanding seismic wave propagation in a heterogeneous earth, in particular for multi-component recordings, complex geometries and repeat (time-lapse) surveying.

The methods and tools integrated in the PGS proprietary seismic modeling and survey design package NUCLEUS stand alone as the premier seismic modelling package in the industry.
