The Halten and Dønna Terraces are mature areas with numerous oil and gas discoveries. This modern dataset provides a new tool to expand understanding of the geological framework and hydrocarbon potential of the area.
The main petroleum system is characterized by a Jurassic source rock and individual Jurassic fluvial-deltaic to shallow marine sandstones and sub-marine Cretaceous turbidites. These are sealed by intra-Jurassic and Cretaceous mudstones.
This 3D GeoStreamer dataset marked the start of a larger campaign on the Halten Terrace and introduced high quality, long offset broadband data to the region, bringing the benefits of higher resolution and structural definition to the Norwegian Sea.
