Survey Design and Modeling
Detailed pre-survey modeling is essential to efficient and successful marine seismic operations. Modern acquisition geometries are increasingly sophisticated. These may involve the simultaneous use of several vessels, and a great variety of towed, stationary and fixed receiver arrays.
It is also increasingly recognized that explicit synergies exist between the three key seismic stages of acquisition, processing and interpretation.
Pre-survey planning, evaluation and design must, therefore, use a diverse range of synthetic modeling and elastic wavefield simulation techniques to interrogate the qualitative and quantitative implications of comparative acquisition geometries and survey strategies. Where possible, reprocessing and analysis of real data should be undertaken, as this will complement all stages of pre-survey design.
