The Taranaki basin is a Cretaceous-Cenozoic basin hosting world-class source rocks that have been geochemically typed to known accumulations. The main prospective fairways exist within the Paleogene and Miocene succession, with a Neogene convergent phase of basin development responsible for both late trap formation and significant burial. The basin includes the Maui gas condensate field (3.4 TCF) and Maari-Manaia oil field (50 MMB), however, the charge of these fields is often the subject of contentious debate.
Fully Integrated Regional Overview
The Taranaki MegaSurvey is a joint project between GNS Science and PGS consisting of over 13 000 sq. km of 3D seismic and over 5 000 line km of 2D. The 2D lines were selected to form a structural framework linking the areas of contiguous 3D seismic coverage to 31 wells across over 100 000 sq. km of the Taranaki Basin in New Zealand. The Taranaki MegaSurvey provides an excellent opportunity for both new entrant companies in New Zealand and existing stakeholders to obtain a fully integrated regional overview through a cost-effective seismic package which offers a fully migrated and merged dataset with amplitude- and phase-matching to produce a balanced dataset which promotes fast screening of prospective intervals by enabling the use of volume attribute generation.
This interactive webinar showcases the latest PGS MegaSurvey. We will cover the processing workflows, some prospectivity highlights, and the velocity model methodology to create the final 13 000 sq. km MultiClient seismic volume converted into depth.
