Broadband, is it worth it?

Absolutely, because the future of seismic is about more than simply producing crisp and clear seismic images. Accurate data that is rich in both low and high-frequency information can be used to estimate acoustic properties such as impedance. This moves us a step closer to being able to discern the rock properties and fluid content of potential reservoirs. To successfully estimate reservoir properties, we require extremely detailed seismic velocity models which are typically produced by Full Waveform Inversion (FWI). GeoStreamer® data, rich in reliable low-frequency information, is the ideal input to FWI.

GeoStreamer is the industry's first true broadband marine seismic system

The streamers are towed deep, maximizing the low-frequency signal content. Multi-sensor recordings allow the accurate removal of unwanted receiver ghost reflections. The result is subsurface images which are not only clearer but which also demonstrate greater accuracy and reliability.

About the seminar: The focus of many previous workshops has been on how broadband seismic is acquired and processed. There has been less emphasis on interpretation and analysis, and the value gained by using broadband compared with conventional seismic. The aim of this seminar is for the end-user to show examples of how the data has impacted interpretation and address the question: Broadband is it worth it?
