Developing One Culture - example
Our onboard teams combine maritime crew, who are largely responsible for the safe operation of the ship, and seismic crew who plan and carry out seismic surveys.
One culture – ship to shore
We have a long-standing partnership with Wilhelmsen Ship Management, who supply the overwhelming majority of the maritime crew for our vessels. Our seismic crew consists mainly of technically qualified graduates, such as geoscientists and engineers, who are direct employees of PGS. The two teams must work very closely together to ensure the safety of everyone onboard, and the quality of the data collected.
In 2013, we introduced a set of initiatives to promote closer working relationships between these two groups - we called it "One Culture". This involved creating the concept of a ‘Vessel Management Team’ (VMT) – comprising the Captain, the Party Chief, and the shore-based Vessel Manager. The VMT is now formally involved in operational decision making, and maritime Captains conform to the same performance management approach as PGS employees.
A series of workshops for Party Chiefs, Captains, and Vessel Managers helped to implement One Culture across the PGS fleet. The One Culture program continues to support them in their roles as leaders and role models.
When PGS chartered three new vessels from Sanco Shipping in 2015, we expanded the implementation of this program to include their maritime leaders too.
