Investigating Optimal Acquisition Configurations

Read about acquisition and processing solutions to image shallow targets in shallow water environments in the June edition of Hart E&P magazine. This coincides with the release of our new interactive acquisition calculator that allows tailoring of the acquisition geometry to figure out the compromises for efficiency versus sampling.

Our latest Hart E&P article highlights the need for high-resolution data, dense spatial sampling, and near offset/near angle information for success in shallow water environments. Novel acquisition configurations presented include wide-towed sources and variable streamer-lengths. These can provide near offsets and high-resolution velocity models that deliver reliable imaging solutions to derisk exploration.

For conventional acquisition, sail line separation impacts both cost and near-offset coverage. Using an HD3D spread with triple source it is possible to reduce crossline bin size significantly. This solution is comparable with P-Cable and similar systems.

intelligent towingThe ultra-HD3D intelligent towing configuration is designed to address the specific imaging challenges of the Barents Sea. The modified front-end optimizes the near offset distribution, while the long tails record refractions and diving waves for improved velocity model building using FWI.
