Rock Physics Low Frequencies: Where are We Now

wave imagewave image
The so-called ‘broadband seismic revolution’ has used a variety of seismic source concepts, multisensor streamers, and cutting-edge imaging technologies to enhance the very-low-frequency (VLF) content of prestack data. Andrew Long reviews the VLF hits and misses of the past decade or so of exploration, and shows how the strategic combination of rock physics and Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) is the key VLF step forward to better reservoir characterization and monitoring. Webinar - Low Frequencies: Where Are We Now?

What level of background knowledge is assumed?

Basic knowledge of geological processes and the reflection seismic method is required, but there is no math involved and we’ve tried to cut jargon that can alienate non-specialists. It would nevertheless be useful to have some basic knowledge of Amplitude vs. Offset (AVO) principles as applicable to seismic exploration.
