Chaoguang Zhou automates velocity model building (VMB) by applying machine learning to the residual moveout (RMO) picking component. RMOs corresponding to primaries, multiples, and refractions are automatically labeled according to user-defined criteria, and then manually edited in the training data. Application is successfully demonstrated on a large 3D pre-stack dataset.
