PGS has over 10 000 sq. km of GeoStreamer data in the Barents Sea. Modern acquisition and processing technology have been applied to reveal the untapped potential of this area which is characterized by shallow water and structural closures at all levels from upper Paleozoic to lower Cretaceous. The eastern part of the Norwegian Barents Sea is a frontier territory with some very interesting geological salt and carbonate reef structures, as well as deep Carboniferous/Devonian mini-basins. The Realgrunnen group represents an especially interesting target, particularly the Early to Middle Jurassic, where flat events correlate well with slow velocities.
A potential for Triassic sands is observed in the Snadd and Kobbe formations fluvial channel systems, and in the prograding systems of the Klappmyss and Havert formations where clinoforms are visible in the data. Permian carbonate reef structures or carbonate buildups are present, however, reservoir quality is high risk as there is no apparent evidence of secondary porosity processes, and the Permian is deeply buried.
Shallow water combined with deep and shallow targets make this a tricky area to image effectively on conventional data. GeoStreamer technology is ideal for the task, thanks to reliable wavefield separation.
Our Barents Sea volume has been optimized with Complete Wavefield Imaging, combining tomography, PGS optimized full waveform inversion and PGS SWIM to produce an excellent dataset with high-density coverage and exceptional resolution. In the shallow southeastern section, the resolution is well over 200 Hz.
